Most travelers heading down I-10 never get off the road and see what adventures await them, for example...Van Horn boasts Red Rock Ranch, a private ranch offering hiking and rock art tours. For more opportunities, check the Texas Mountain Trail website, including the Top Ten 15 Minute Rest Breaks in the region, selected by friends of the Trail.

Hollyhocks....
....gracing the Van Horn Cemetery!
Tucked in the north side of town with perfect views of Turtleback and Six Mile Mountains (you can see them yourself as the last frame of the video below), this is a great place for an early morning walk for birdwatching or to see the flowers lovingly tended by local citizens.

No Country for Old Men
Cormac McCarthy wrote about this place in Van Horn in his book, No Country for Old Men. The scene didn't make it into the movie, but you can see it yourself, by taking the second Van Horn exit and traveling south from I-10...just 1/2 block away from the interstate!
And no, you can't buy Diesel Fried Chicken in town, but there is a lovely hometown restaurant, Pappa's Pantry, just across the street!
