An oasis from the hot sun, the
Guadalupe Mountains National Park has a great 2.3 mile trail with a cool and shady spot in the middle, where Smith Spring emerges from a woodland. Animals visit frequently to get water and stay cool. Here the temperatures on a hot day are at least 10-20 degrees cooler than on the desert floor.
