Devil's Hall Trail

This is one of our favorite hikes in Guadalupe Mountains National Park.  There is very little elevation gain, but the rocky trail takes you through a streambed, up a rocky "staircase" and into Devil's Hall.  Only 4.2 miles roundtrip, the trail is rated "moderate," and takes most hikers 3-5 hours.

This is a spectacular trail in the fall when the maples are turning reds and golds, and the madrone berries are looking lush and bright. We've hiked it in October 2008 and 2009. A camera gets a lot of workout!

  2. Wow... I really need to make a trip to the Guadalupe mts!!!

After the summer ends, when do they start cooling off, temps wise?

  3. d, our hot months are typically May and June, and with the summer rains things start to cool down. Seasonal high in July is in the 90s, but the low is in the high 50s. And it starts doing down from there, depending on how much rain we get. August and Sept are similar--highs in low 90s and lows in the 50s. October, high is in the high 80s, with lows around 45. Does this help?

  5. Sounds about like Big Bend... maybe a touch cooler than down by the river.

    Thanks Beth!
