The Smith Spring trail is one of our favorites in the region, because of the diversity of views, its history and hiking it is just plain fun. This is just one of the views of the desert floor from the trail. To see a full slideshow, click here.

Fine blog. I want to hike the Smith Spring Trail. Would be a good time to do so in the spring. Beautiful photographs of Texas. I quoted you and cited your blog.
ReplyDeleteYes, spring is a FINE time to hike this trail. Actually, it can be fun to hike in the winter, because sometimes ice forms in the shade near the spring itself. And did you catch that word, "shade?" Yes, trees have grown up around the source of natural water, so in the summer, it can be hot in the open desert portions of the trail, you can take refuge in the wooded area by the spring itself and be quite cool.
