Get off the Freeway: the Green Oasis of Memorial Park
Today's entry concludes our visit to El Paso's historic Manhattan Heights neighborhood with some views of Memorial Park. Large green stretches of grass, a garden center, playgrounds, GREAT views of the city below and a public library (where you can park your bike!) offer a quiet respite from the road. Built on the grounds of an abandoned copper smelter from 1901-1909, this park is the result of much work by the Depression-era Works Progress Administration, the city of El Paso, Chamber of Commerce and civic groups.
