Just east of Presidio is Fort Leaton State Historic Site, a place with history dating back to the late 1600s. The current adobe structure was built in the 1848, right after the U.S. Mexican War on the Chihuahua-San Antonio Trail. It is undergoing renovation, but visitors are welcome at this lovely oasis along the river.
